Formerly known as Rhodesia Zimbabwe has produced famous works of literature. Dambudzo Marachera, Chenjerai Hove, Tendai Mwanaka, Tsitsti Dangaremba to name but a few. The political situation of Zimbabwe did not daunt the creative people. At a dark time in 2008 the Book Club in Harare still had wonderful readings. There was humor and a sense of community around the book and reading with people of different races. Maktabaa witnessed that. The Harare Bookfair remains outstanding in Africa and in the world.Zimbabwe is a large country and is bordered by Mozambique to the west, South Africa and Botswana to the south and Zambia to the east and Tanzania to the north.
The Constitution of Zimbabwe defends freedom of expression and all human rights.
