The beauty of music, both lyrics and soft notes is legendary here. And ...Tabuley Rochereau famous in the 70s is asking questions about why a girl was abused - He gets no answer but "Go and ask Mayaay..."! Note the comments are in French and English. The DRC is the 12th largest country in the world. It has a population of nearly 71 million. The country has a short Atlantic coastline measuring 40 km. The DRC is a Francophone country. Anti-clockwise, it is bordered by the Central African Republic, Congo, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda,Uganda and Southern Sudan. To the west and into the Atlantic Ocean, the Congo River opens into a 9 km delta into the Gulf of Guinea. Under Mobotu Sesseko,a dictator, DRC was for a few years called Zaire. The country is wealthy and is economically affiliated to South Africa. The DRC is a member of the South African Development Community (SADC). In 1998, the second war begun. Several countries were involved. A peace accord was signed in 2003 but fighting continued in the east. The country has been called the worst with the regard to rape frequency. UN soldiers failed to protect the civilians and some of them raped local women in the year 2011.

The constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo declares that it protects human rights.

DRC has had very rough times in history. Dictator Mobutu let the country down. The court poets of the time praised him in beautiful music.  What is important here are the commnents below...Belela, belela Congo ya Mobotu! Has Afrika used her beauty to seduce the reich and powerful for money? Do people not get the leaders they deserve? Critical literature in books is hardly known. DRC is immersed in the poetry of her music.
